General Statement of Duties
Performs general non-sworn officer duties for the Southwest Idaho Juvenile Detention Center (SWIJDC); performs related work as required.
Classification Summary
The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform non-sworn officer duties to ensure the safety and security of the SWIJDC. Work is performed under the general direction of a Department administrator, assistant administrator, training coordinator/field training officer, shift supervisor and/or assistant shift supervisor. Some latitude is granted to the employee but work is subject to stringent Federal, State and County legal guidelines and Department policies and procedures. The principal duties of this class are performed in a work environment in which the employee is subject to potential personal danger and health hazards. Special assignments may be made to Juvenile Detention Officers which may include, but are not limited to Booking/Admissions Officer, Compliance Monitoring Officer, or other specialized duties.

DISQUALIFIERS FOR EMPLOYMENT
Juvenile Detention Officers
Applicants must provide proof of either a high school diploma, or G.E.D. and/ or College Transcripts, when submitting their application to Human Resources.
Listed below are a number of behaviors that may disqualify an applicant from consideration for employment. Those items referring to P.O.S.T. regard Juvenile Detention Officer applicants only.
Use of marijuana in the past three years.
Use of any other illegal drug in the past five years.
Any use of heroin or derivatives (injections).
Any selling, transporting, or manufacturing of illegal drugs.
History of long-term abuse of illegal drugs.
Suspended license in the past two years. P.O.S.T. Director review.
Driving without privileges in the past two years. P.O.S.T. Director review.
Conviction for D.U.I. in the past two years. P.O.S.T. Director review.
Five or more moving offenses in the past three years. P.O.S.T. Council review.
Failure to have liability insurance during the past three years.
Conviction of a Felony crime.
Conviction of Domestic Battery.
*Conviction of Misdemeanor sex crime, crime of deceit, or drug offense unless occurred over five years ago-File review with P.O.S.T. Council
*Willful Concealment or Petit Theft. P.O.S.T. Director review.
All other Misdemeanor cases- P.O.S.T. Council review if occurred over two years ago.
History of numerous Misdemeanor offenses and/or any Felony offense.
Drug test required
1) Have ever engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution (as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997);
2) Have ever been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or
3) Have ever been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in paragraph (1) or (2) of this section; or
4) Have ever been convicted of any felony crime.
