**Position Summary**: This is a front-line, salaried-exempt position, responsible for supervising a rotating shift of bargaining unit employees in the operation and maintenance of steam and power generation equipment, as directed by the Power Generation Manager, Shift Manager, and Operations Supervisor. Incumbent will be required to routinely work nights, weekends, and holidays, and be assigned as emergency on-call supervisor.
**Essential Duties**:
* Abide by all Company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook and comply with all Company, Local, State and Federal regulations relating to Health, Safety, Operations, etc.
* Successfully participate in and complete all training sessions, safety classes, shift meetings, and/or certifications related to the position.
* Monitor and enforce the safety program by conducting regular pre-shift safety meetings and other identified training requirements, and discipline violations of the safety program, in order to maintain and foster a safe working environment and comply with OSHA standards.
* Supervise and direct the control of proper power plant operations, including control of steam temperatures, pressures, superheat, and steam quality.
* Supervise and direct the control of feed-water chemistry, including the monitoring of hardness, alkalinity, Ph, chloride, sulfite, phosphate, conductivity, and their operating ranges for continuous safe and efficient boiler operation.
* Supervise and direct the planned and preventative maintenance of all power generation equipment in a safe manner, using personal and professional mechanical knowledge and experience, by managing material inventory and assigning repair work in coordination with department management and planners, using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
* Have a thorough understanding and ensure the proper safe operation of fuel burners, valve trains, stokers, steam traps, feed-water dearators, and pumps.
* Use SAP to schedule work assignments, record and approve time, and order materials.
* Train, coach, and motivate employees to conduct work assignments and accomplish goals in accordance with Operational Excellence and continuous improvement guidelines, with consideration for overall operating costs.
* Coordinate with outside departments the daily production targets in reference to: the amount of steam needed for consistent operations; weather conditions; maintenance and other operational issues.
* Communicate effectively with employees to promote a positive work environment while promoting procedures and enforcing Company policies.
**Job Requirements**
* Must be 18 years of age or older.
* Must have 10 years of applicable steam power plant experience and have demonstrated leadership capabilities in operating and maintaining boilers, turbine generators, and associated equipment.
* Demonstrate operational knowledge of solid fuel boilers and associated reactions, including: the understanding of air requirements, supply and control, the purpose of dampers, obtaining combustion efficiency, controlling excess air and its effect on boiler efficiency, air pollution and its constituents, and the chemistry occurring in the boiler furnace creating those constituents.
* Demonstrate physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Applicant must be in good health and physically able to perform all phases of the work.
* Applicant must be able to read, write and speak the English language in order to comprehend instructions on the job and in the classroom, to communicate via radio, to write and interpret policies and procedures, and to ensure personal and co-worker safety on the job.
* New hires must pass a drug test and other pre-employment background screening, and successfully complete any required training or orientation course.
* Internal candidates must have good work record and disciplinary history, and positive results from Company-designated tests designed to measure basic skills, job skills, mechanical aptitude and/or other interests, skills and characteristics.
**Working Conditions**:
80% of the work environment is conducted in an outdoor environment, exposed to heights, extreme temperatures, flying dust and particles, loud noise, and low lighting while wearing PPE (i.e.: hard hat, goggles, ear plugs, full-body suits, and respirators); working around wet or dripping, moving machinery with sharp edges, reaching above the head while crouching, standing, or laying prone; regularly climbing stairs or ladders, kneeling, crawling, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching overhead, and walking on uneven ground containing slip and trip hazards.
20% of the work environment is conducted while seated in an enclosed building with an environmentally controlled atmosphere, facing multiple computer screens containing flashing colored lights, using repetitive motions with computer mouse and keyboards, routinely taking and receiving verbal instructions in person or over the radio. Candidates will occasionally be exposed to stressful emergency situations, requiring tempered, planned responses while directing the actions of field staff and simultaneously collaborating with managers.
