Job Summary
This position provides direct clinical counseling services to GSU students, consultations with GSU students, staff and faculty, and outreach programming to the GSU campus community; assists in training of interns and counselors at Student Counseling Services. Assess, diagnose and counsel individuals, as well redirect relational issues. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans addressing individual, decision-making, relational problems. Facilitate and lead group and educate in sessions. Manage students' files and maintain documentation.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
The Relational Social Counselor functions in the following areas:Provide individual, conjoint, or group counseling in the therapeutic process for GSU studentsPerform psychotherapy Provide consultation and research on psychological, social, environmental, and organizational issues to faculty and staff regarding the psychological needs of GSU students Assist in the development and evaluation of services Provide emergency psychological services during non-office hoursParticipate in program planningMaintain client files and documentation; maintain correspondence and compile information; prepare reports as assignedAssess students' mental stability, refer to other agencies, and assist in research; prepare documents for the institution and professional journalsParticipate in professional development opportunities and in-service trainingKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesPossess Knowledge of: Professional ethical guidelines Individual, group counseling and crisis intervention services Mental Health issues educating processes and techniques Human behavior and performance Individual differences in ability, personality, and interests Psychotherapy/Counseling research methods Assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders Mental Health Clinical operations and procedures Community mental health resources Student outreach services and activities Community medical diagnostic and patient care services Principles and methods of social and vocational rehabilitation as they relate to mental health clinical practices Legal and ethical issues related to students' rights Community support services Principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions Principles and processes for providing services ADA laws and disability servicesPossess Skills and Abilities to:Effectively communicate in written and verbal formPerform essential functions under stressful situationsMaintain confidentialityAdhere to professional ethical guidelinesMake procedural decisions and judgments Interviewing and psychological/developmental evaluationMaintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stressesCreate, compose and edit written materialsObserve, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progressLead and train staff and/or studentsPreparing and maintaining students' recordsWork effectively with a wide range of constituencies on diverse campus communityFoster a cooperative working environment
Qualifications
Minimum:Graduate degree in counseling and/or related field. Licensure as a LMFT, LPC, and/or LCSW in the state of Louisiana or Louisiana-licensure eligible. Minimum of two (2) years experience working in a mental health setting required.
