JOB SUMMARY: The Residential Treatment Specialist provides supervision and management of assigned children in the daily living routines that comprise the therapeutic milieu of the residential treatment program of Cleveland Christian Home.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, and/or Experience:
* High school diploma or GED;
* A minimum of one (1) year child care experience in a residential environment (RTS I); or
* A minimum of two (2) years child care experience (RTS II); or
* An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
* Successful completion of all required pre-hire tests and proof of current TB test upon hire
* COVID-19 vaccination or exemption required upon start of work
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* A valid Driver's License, appropriate driving record with appropriate insurance coverage (as required by agency policy and/or insurance carriers)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provides care, support, attention and a positive, therapeutic atmosphere to all children in the department to which assigned
* Maintain consistent, firm and fair relationships with all children
* Serves as an appropriate, positive role-model
* Provides physical and emotional security for the children through intervention, correction and re-direction of negative behavior when:
* Behavior is damaging to self;
* Behavior is damaging to others
* Behavior may result in damage to property
* Assists with managing the physical needs of the children including health, hygiene, and physical comfort (food/clothing/shelter)
* Maintains an active interest in and an awareness of the whereabouts and activities of each assigned child at all times while on duty
* Assists with maintaining an approach/program that is in compliance with the individual treatment plan;
* Assists with maintaining agency philosophy, policies
* Serves as an integral member of the treatment team
* Provides formal and informal reports on behavior, attitude and general disposition of assigned children, including:
* Incident Reports, restraint remediation sheets, time-out reports
* Department logs
* Behavior Rating Scales
* Primary sheets
* Attends conferences and meetings
* Participates in the planning, supervision and provision of therapeutic and recreational activities
* Transports children as necessary including, but not limited to medical appointments, activities, school
* Assists with maintaining current inventory and/or awareness of all supplies, equipment and furnishings
* Reports repairs as necessary
* Assists with household duties
* Attend training to meet licensing requirements
* Understand that the agency reserves the right to mandate overtime as needed to ensure the safety, supervision and care of the residents in treatment
ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Maintains and/or increases knowledge, skills and abilities
* Attends conferences, meetings and/or committees including supervisory sessions, general staff meetings, trainings, department and treatment plan meetings, evaluations and triage/psychiatric /medical treatment conferences
* Performs other duties as assigned and/or needed.
* Assists with providing transportation of clients, as needed
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Personal Characteristics:
* Knowledge and support of agency mission, goals, policies and procedures*
* Basic knowledge of mental health administration including applicable department rules, regulations, functions, procedures and policies*
* Knowledge of therapeutic milieu philosophy, techniques and quality standards*
* Knowledge of methods/techniques for intervention, correction and re-direction of negative behavior*
* Basic knowledge of the physical and emotional needs of children including health, hygiene, consistency, supervision and recreation
* Knowledge of applicable forms/documentation*
* Organizing, coordinating and prioritizing techniques and methods
* Ability to provide a positive, therapeutic and safe environment for children
* Ability to perform physical restraints safely and correctly
* Ability to establish a rapport with clients
* Ability to maintain appropriate and required confidentiality ensuring the integrity of sensitive information (written and/or verbal)
* Ability to carry out written and oral instructions
* Ability to work independently
PHYSICAL DEMANDS described here are representative of those that must be routinely met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this position.
* Ability to frequently work with and around household cleaning agents and other chemicals.
* Physical capacity for frequent bending, stooping and lifting.
* Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and move heavy objects.
* Work involves some exposure to physical risks such as physical restraint, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
* Ability to perform job responsibilities in a facility or residence with multiple levels and without elevators or mechanical transportation.
