The Library Media Specialist has the primary responsibility to maintain a comprehensive and balanced information and media collection consisting of current media, books, reference sources, and periodicals in print and electronic formats that support student learning, the curriculum, and the instructional program. The Library Media Specialist is also charged with promoting the utilization of media, organizing the library media collection, and circulating library media materials. Reports To Principal Salary Range: From/To Per teacher salary schedule posted on www.acsk-12.org (outside teaching experience and educational degrees recognized) Salary Schedule.pdf Additional Job Information Minimum Qualifications: Requires a Library/Library Information Specialist endorsement with a valid Tennessee certificate. Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated. Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position. Job Responsibilities: 1. Plans with teachers as cooperative partners to integrate curriculum content with resource use and information literacy skills. 2. Consults with students and staff regarding their needs and interests in relation to the selection and utilization of materials and resources. 3. Provides library media center resources that will meet the informational, research, educational, and recreational needs of users. 4. Provides for the organization, circulation, and maintenance of resources. 5. Implements policies for effective use of technology through the organization of facilities and equipment, staff assistance, and as a member of the technology committee. 6. Uses both formal and informal instruction to teach specific skills needed for use of the library media center and technology with students and staff. 7. Coordinates information retrieval for students and staff through print, audiovisual, and electronic sources. 8. Promotes literacy and the enjoyment of reading, viewing, and listening. 9. Consults with the principal, assistant principal, and staff to formulate and implement a mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives for the library media program. 10. Participates as an active member of the School Improvement Team. 11. Participates in the development of a long range technology plan for the school. 12. Analyzes curriculum changes and advances in technology to meet the instructional needs of students. 13. Promotes the library media center through public relations. 14. Maintains an inventory of books and materials. 15. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed. The librarian maintains a forty-hour (40) workweek and works additional hours as required to carry out all of the duties and responsibilities of the position. This is 10 month position.
