Position Summary

Under the oversight of the Dean of Student Success & Sparks Campus, the Director of SSS provides administrative oversight to the TRiO program - Student Support Services. Employee ensures compliance with institutional and federal regulations, supervises program staff, and monitors expenditures. The employee oversees program activities ensuring goals and objectives are met. The employee is also responsible for maintaining student records and submitting reports based on data collected.

SALARY: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule C3 (range: $47,625 - $93,455 - PLACEMENT IS BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION). This is a grant-funded position. In the event that funds for this position are discontinued, the College shall have the right to discontinue the position. Neither tenure or non-probationary status may be attained in this position.

ANTICIPATED START DATE: APRIL 15, 2024The position will be based initially at the Wallace Campus in Dothan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Program Administration and Supervision. The employee provides leadership and administrative oversight to the Student Support Services program.

Articulates program objectives, procedures, and evaluation outcomes to students, faculty, staff, and administration; solicits input from these groups.
Works with College administration to ensure that program's operation is consistent with overall goals of Student Support Services and assist the institution in serving disadvantaged students.
Implements evaluation plans and ensures that data needed is collected and analyzed on a regular basis.
Works with the Dean of Business Affairs on fiscal reporting and budget management to ensure maximum program cost effectiveness and timely submission of financial reports required by the US Department of Education.
Revises grant proposal narrative and budget based on approved amount for programs.
Stays abreast of grant regulations and conditions to ensure program operates in total compliance
Serves as liaison between program personnel and institutional leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Supervision. Supervises and directs Student Support Services personnel in providing quality services for WCC.

Monitors and reviews projects to ensure that all deadlines are met and that the end product meets quality standards.
Supervises all project personnel, including part-time and temporary employees; coordinates functions of project personnel.
Supervises assigned staff by setting schedules, assigning tasks, evaluating performance and making disciplinary decisions.
Assists College administrators in recruiting and hiring program personnel.
Acquaints new hires with the objectives, strategies, and time frames of the Student Support Services program.
Reviews and approves time sheets; approves annual and sick leave.
Conducts annual performance evaluations for staff.
Provides staff with regular feedback based on their ongoing job performance.
Coaches and counsels employees appropriately to enhance development, productivity, and morale.
Recommends and coordinates professional development for staff.
Provides appropriate training and professional development opportunities for department staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Program Operations. Oversees the activities of program ensuring that minimum requirements are met, and students are served.

Reviews student applications and/or records; identifies students eligible for both Student Support Services; ensures minimum enrollment is met.
Manages the interview process for SSS program.
Maintains regular contact participants to include intervention of personal, financial, academic and other problems that participants may experience.
Assists staff in conducting a comprehensive needs assessment for each student and assists in designing individual activity plans for students and ensures documentation thereof.
Presents workshops and seminars; conducts cultural enrichment activities both on and off campus.
Monitors completion of program activities in accordance with established time frames.
Structures programming to foster and enhance a college climate that is supportive of low-income, first-generation, and disabled students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Records and Reports. The employee maintains comprehensive records that include data needed for reporting to the College and the US Department of Education.

Maintains comprehensive student records; monitors the documentation of services and activities by SSS staff for each participant.
Maintains the required financial management records and financial resources to further the accomplishment of program objectives and ensures that all program expenditures are allowable by grant regulations.
Completes and submits all monitoring and evaluation reports required by the US Department of Education to document compliance with grant regulations.
Completes and submits term reports, monthly reports, and the Annual Performance Report in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: College Expectations. Dependability, attendance, punctuality, and a commitment to do the job right are essential at all times.

Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college is required.
Five years' experience working with low-income, first-generation clientele is required.
Ability to work nonstandard hours specifically evenings and weekends is required.
Current and valid driver's license with the ability to frequently travel to attend events and activities is required.
Administrative/supervisory experience is preferred.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE: The President will appoint an Advisory and Interview Committee to include representatives of the College faculty and staff. This committee will employ appropriate procedures, including the review of application packets, interviews, and demonstration of competency, to determine which applicants are to be recommended to the President for further consideration. From all the applications received, an advisory committee will select the applicants to be interviewed.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
