Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This Engineering Technician Associate position is the entry level for the Engineering Technician class series and is located in Topeka, KS and is within the Bureau of Right of Way. This position aids in the acquisition and development of survey data to support the highway design and right of way control for engineering projects of the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT).
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
* Assists on a preliminary design survey crew operating GPS equipment, robotic total stations, LIDAR scanners, and automatic levels in the gathering of survey data.
* Assists in the recovery of survey monumentation and in clearing the survey project of weeds, brush and small trees.
* Utilizes tripod/tribrach type equipment or prism pole for sights on survey operations and recovers and occupies previously determined survey points on their own recognizance and ability.
* Assists in traffic control.
* Learns survey methods and survey math by on-the-job training from supervisor/staff.
* Performs maintenance and minor repairs to survey equipment, maintains and clean and neat work environment, and aids in the daily cleanup and detail of the survey equipment and vehicles.
* Takes notes during the survey operation that are clear, concise, accurate, and conform to procedure as detailed in the KDOT Survey Manual. This position also makes preliminary survey calculations with a survey controller, computer, or handheld computer.
