Job Summary:
Provides clinical and emotional support to the diagnostic breast patients and is available for concerns and questions throughout the treatment process. Works closely with the radiologists and surgeons in accumulating results and conveying difficult results to the patient and is available for consult for patients needing immediate diagnostic work-up. Develops close working relationships with breast specialists and support staff. Establishes quality indicators for pain/nausea assessment/others as indicated following surgery and during treatment. Demonstrates subject matter expertise regularly regarding medication, treatment, and patient care standards. Attend weekly breast conferences and provide input on patients and is involved in the community through events sponsored by the Breast Program, as well as Community Health Fairs/events.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
* Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN): Preferred
* Two years' relevant clinical experience: Preferred
* Oncology nursing experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
* Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required
* Nurse Practitioner (NP) licensure in state of practice: Required
* Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
* Certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN ), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN ), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP ), or Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Specialist (AOCNS ): Preferred
Essential Functions:
* Provides expert clinical care in general or specialty area; Implements appropriate care intervention and follow-up to ensure patients receive timely care, preventing delays and providing access to appropriate services; collaborates with the team of patient, family, and healthcare providers in providing patient care in a safe, healing and caring environment.
* Performs assessment on patients presenting with breast problems; discusses with radiologist and facilitates orders to expedite appropriate diagnostic care; partners with technologists to coordinate necessary procedures; works with the radiologists and surgeons to determine recommendations to patients following biopsies and assists with biopsy procedures as needed.
* Coordinates patient care including writing orders for next steps in the diagnostic process, risk stratification and reviewing results with the patient and educating and advising them on the next steps in their care journey; determines necessity for genetic counseling and assists with family history forms and scheduling counseling sessions.
* Actively sees and clinically manages Breast Cancer Survivorship patients in ongoing survivorship clinic visits; provides long-term follow up and assesses potential sequelae of treatment; facilitates detection of loco-regional recurrence, screening for new primary breast cancer, monitoring and managing long-term complications of treatment, and ensures compliance with current therapy.
* Mentors, develops, inspires, educates and leads staff members in patient care setting, assists with the preparation of Breast Tumor conference and supports High Risk and Second Opinion Clinics.
* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
