JOB SUMMARY:
This Medical Lab Technician position fills the role as supporting staff for the Point of Care program. This individual is responsible for assisting in managing the implementation and use of point of care testing devices throughout the institution, inpatient and outpatient, including the Academic Medical Group. Along with the full-time Point of Care Coordinator, they ensure accurate test results that can be used in clinical decision making by non-laboratory personnel; they assist in maintaining program licensure and ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies requirements. They are also responsible for assisting with managing patient data and quality documentation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates degree for Medical Laboratory Technician or Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution required.
MLT (ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Technician, American Society of Clinical Pathology Certification required OR must be ASCP certified within one year of employment at the Penn State Hershey Department of Pathology.
Good customer service and communication skills required
Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize work.
Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements. The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex: National Association Credential Evaluations Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). The applicants is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.
