Job Description:
The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota invites applicants for a research assistant position in the Brain Tumor Program. The laboratory of Dr. Andrew Venteicher, MD PhD, is seeking highly self-motivated candidates with a BS/BA or equivalent degree, excellent academic record, and a strong interest in developing new therapies for patients with primary brain tumors.
The ideal candidate should have research experience with patient tumor specimens, mammalian cell culture, and standard molecular biology techniques. Genomics experience is preferred. The candidate would have primary responsibility in carrying out a range of experimental techniques and will manage the laboratory. The candidate must be motivated to learn and develop increasing skill with hypothesis generation and the design of experimental strategies. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively with other lab members and assist post-doctoral fellows and graduate students as needed.
Job Duties/Responsibilities: * Work with a wide spectrum of laboratory techniques on primary clinical tissue specimens and cell lines, including aseptic cell culture, PCR, RNA sequencing, immunohistochemistry, protein biochemistry (40%) * Laboratory management (30%) * Collect and analyze data (20%) * Assist and work collaboratively with other laboratory members (10%)

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Science with major in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, or related science/engineering field and 1 year of related experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal five (5) years. * Laboratory experience using cell culture and molecular biology techniques. * Desire and ability to work collaboratively with others. * Excellent organizational skills. * Highly self-motivated researcher. Preferred Qualifications: * Laboratory experience using clinical samples, flow cytometry, and/or genomics. * Understanding of and/or experience with RNA seq, PCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry. * Ability to identify and troubleshoot problems. * Good communication and writing skills.
